Four Main Types of Auto Insurance in Florida

Below we will describe the different types of auto insurance that you should be aware of because they are important to know for your car accident or car accidents in general.

1. Bodily Injury Liability

Bodily injury liability coverage pays for another person’s injuries, pain and suffering, medical or funeral expenses (not yours) if you cause a car accident.

2. Property Damage Liability

Property damage liability coverage pays to repair or replace another person’s property (not yours) if you’re responsible for a car accident. Typically, it covers damage to the other driver’s vehicle and someone else’s property.

3. Personal Injury Protection

Regardless of who is at fault, personal injury protection, or PIP, helps pay for medical bills that you and your passengers incur in an accident. It can cover medical, hospital, and funeral expenses, lost wages, and childcare services. In Florida it covers 80% of medical bills and 60% of lost wages. The other 20% in medical bills is often written off or paid for by the other’s driver’s insurance and at times the entire amount is paid for or reimbursed by the at fault driver’s insurance through the subrogation process.

4. Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured motorist coverage pays for your expenses (bodily injury, pain and suffering, or any of the above) if you’re hit by an uninsured or underinsured driver.
